Philipp Lahm, coach of the FCB Legends: "I am very proud to be part of the FC Bayern Legends for the first time at this special event. We are looking forward to the tournament with spectacular top international clubs, and I personally am looking forward to seeing one or two familiar faces from previous big games - games where Franz Beckenbauer kept his fingers crossed for us in the stands. We will all never forget him. Especially for a native of Munich, he was always a personality who inspired me in a special way."
The game mode at the "Beckenbauer Cup"
The game will be played on March 17 from 6:30 p.m. in two groups on artificial turf with LED boards around the pitch. The playing time is ten minutes per match (twice six minutes from the semi-finals onwards). The two group winners reach the semi-finals. The losers meet in a match for third place and the winners play the final match for the "Beckenbauer Cup". As a special rule, the attacking time is limited in the last minute of the game, similar to basketball, to prevent the score from simply being managed over time. Naturally, the legends of the teams will be available to sign autographs for fans during the event.
With this tournament, FC Bayern and some of the biggest European soccer clubs are once again honoring the most important personality of the German record champions in a special way to mark the club's anniversary. At the annual general meeting, the club decided, with the overwhelming approval of its members, that the number 5 on the "Kaiser's" shirt would never again be assigned in memory of Beckenbauer.
