"SAP Garden could become my number one" Michael Wolf and Steffen Hamann in a double interview// INTERVIEWNot only the active players of EHC Red Bull München and FC Bayern Basketball can hardly wait for the opening of SAP Garden. In a double interview, Michael Wolf and Steffen Hamann spoke about their careers and the arena.
The way both clubs are developing, including the SAP Garden, would you like to be back at the beginning?
Wolf: "When I look at the arena here, I would definitely want to play there again. Put on my skates and play another round. But those days are over.
Hamann: "Sure. We were here with the current team and they were all on fire. And I feel the same way. Of course it's tingling and you'd love to be back on the court again. Because you simply couldn't have imagined something like this in the early years. But okay, I think we've both had enough time away from sport. And the over-40s hurt your bones enough. (laughs)"
What role did halls play in your careers? Do you fall in love with courts as a player?
Hamann: "The funny thing is: I've moved to all the clubs. In Bamberg and Berlin to the current arenas. Here in Munich, I moved from the ice rink to the Rudi-Sedlmayr-Halle, which is now BMW Park. I love that place. I like places where the old meets the new. But sometimes you tend to think of certain games. Like the game against Würzburg, which we played in the second division in the large Olympic Hall. In front of 12,000 spectators. I think Effenberg brought the ball onto the pitch in the convertible. Unforgettable."

Wolf: "I've played pretty much everywhere. Old ice rinks, modern multifunctional arenas. I used to love playing in Hamburg. After the club withdrew from the top German league, of course the league no longer played in this arena. But when you see what's being built here in Munich, the SAP Garden will become my new number one, even if I don't play there anymore."
Two legends are eagerly awaiting the SAP Garden
Wolf captained EHC Red Bull München to three championships between 2014 and 2019. With 112 goals in the DEL (104) and the Champions League (8), the now 43-year-old was the Red Bulls' record goalscorer until this season, before being overtaken by Trevor Parkes last October.
Hamann played for FC Bayern Basketball from 2010 to 2014. After promotion to the Basketball Bundesliga in 2010/11, the later captain also became champion in 2014 and then left for Baunach. Although both are no longer playing professionally, they are clearly looking forward to the SAP Garden.
The complete interview with Michael Wolf and Steffen Hamann was published on February 16 in the Münchner Merkur and the tz.
