Grand Opening: SAP Garden opens its doors// GRAND OPENINGThe time has come! The SAP Garden in Munich's Olympiapark will be officially opened on September 27 with the game between EHC Red Bull München and Buffalo Sabres from the National Hockey League. The grand opening game will be broadcast live on television.The Grand Opening will be followed by the "Open Day" on Saturday, September 28, and the premiere of FC Bayern Basketball in the EuroLeague opener against Real Madrid's star ensemble on Wednesday (October 3).
The Red Bulls' Grand Opening Game against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday at 8:30 pm will be shown live and in full by MagentaSport, Sky und ServusTV On, with DF1 showing the team in full at a later time. In addition, the duel will be broadcast worldwide on Red Bull TV global and in the USA and Canada on NHL Network.
EHC Red Bull München opens against the Buffalo Sabres
Exactly 1,719 days after the start of construction, the first sporting event will take place in the SAP Garden with the clash between four-time German ice hockey champions EHC Red Bull Munich and the NHL team Buffalo Sabres. The game is part of the "2024 NHL Global Series Challenge Germany presented by Fastenal". All tickets were sold out just a few minutes after the pre-sale began.
This is the second time in its history that the NHL has visited the Bavarian capital. In 1990, the Edmonton Oilers were guests in Munich and won 8:4 against the EC Hedos Munich. 34 years later, the Buffalo Sabres will now follow. This will be EHC Red Bull München's first encounter with a team from the best and most famous ice hockey league in the world.
Spectacular shows at the "Open Day"
Less than 24 hours after the opening game, all Munich residents can get a first and lasting impression of the new multifunctional sports arena at the "Open Day".
Among other things, visitors can look forward to various shows that document the variety of uses of SAP Gardens. A particular highlight will be the "Flying Art of Movement" show, which will be staged jointly by top Red Bull athletes and the revolutionary dance company Flying Steps. The free tickets for this event also sold out after just a few days.
FC Bayern Basketball debuts against Real Madrid
FC Bayern Basketball will conclude the Grand Opening. The five-time German champions will make their debut at the SAP Garden on Thursday, October 3 (German Unity Day) at 8:45 pm. The focus will be on the cup winners' first home game of the new 2024/2025 EuroLeague season against Real Madrid's star ensemble.
The SAP Garden premiere of the basketball team will be staged with club legends from basketball, soccer and other sports. The supporting program also includes a well-known show act. This game is also already sold out.
The SAP Garden becomes a 365-day experience
The main building of SAP Garden, which measures 29 meters from the ice rink to the hall ceiling, would even fit Munich's Victory Gate and Quadriga. However, the SAP Garden also includes three underground ice rinks with a total ice surface of around 5,400 square meters, which are designed for both training and recreational sports and can be operated independently of the main building.
After the opening, the SAP Garden will become a 365-day experience arena, which will house fan stores, a restaurant and Munich's first bookable gaming hub - the "Gaming Garden" - in addition to the ice rinks. A further 40 major sports and sports-related events are also planned.
