Red Bull Munich celebrates ice hockey show
With the Red Bulls' Grand Opening Game against the Buffalo Sabres from the National Hockey League (NHL), the SAP Garden was finally officially opened on September 27, 1,719 days after construction began. In front of numerous personalities from politics and sport - including Joachim Herrmann (Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, for Sport and Integration), Dieter Reiter (Lord Mayor of the City of Munich), Germany's record-breaking national soccer player Lothar Matthäus and many more - both teams played sport at the highest level in front of 10,796 spectators.
Although the four-time German ice hockey champions were beaten 5-0 by the guests from the best and most famous league in the world in their new home, this was more of a side note on this evening. The ultra-modern multifunctional arena in the Olympic Park showed off its impressive interior for the first time.
