The opening date was first announced on the evening of February 18 as part of a drone show around the new multifunctional sports arena. And the first sporting event in one of the most modern sports arenas in Europe has it all. Four-time German ice hockey champions EHC Red Bull Munich will host a team from the NHL on Friday, September 27. The name of the NHL team is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
"Open House Day" and basketball game
An Open House Day will follow on Saturday, September 27. Throughout the day, all Munich residents will be able to visit the new landmark and get a first, lasting impression of its wealth of options. Among other things, guests will be able to experience the new video cube with a total projection area of 209 square metres in action. In addition, visitors can look forward to various show performances that document the variety of uses of SAP Garden.
On October 3, five-time German basketball champions FC Bayern München will celebrate their debut on the new floor at Oberwiesenfeld. Further information on the programme for this day will follow.
"Extraordinary stadium experience"
"We are proud that this project will start at the end of September with a very special kind of sports experience," says René Dimter, Managing Director of Red Bull Stadion München GmbH, the developer of SAP Garden. "We can promise all future visitors an extraordinary stadium experience in one of the most modern sports arenas in Europe," Dimter continues.
The SAP Garden can accommodate up to 11,500 spectators. The main building, which measures 29 metres from the ice surface to the hall ceiling, would fit the Munich Victory Gate. From the 2024/25 season, all EHC Red Bull München home games will be played here. It will also host at least 20 FC Bayern Basketball home games and up to 40 sporting or sports-related events every year.
This also includes three ice sports areas that can be used all year round with a total ice surface of around 5,400 square metres, which are designed for both training and recreational sports and can be operated independently of the main building. In addition to ice hockey, Olympic sports such as figure skating, short track and curling can also be practised here for training purposes. One of the three ice rinks has a capacity of 600 spectators, while the other two rinks can accommodate 200 people each. The entire building complex, including the main playing area, has a gross floor area of more than 70,000 square metres, with a total usable area of an impressive 22,500 square metres.
Advance ticket sales for the ice hockey and basketball match are expected to start in May this year. From May, all interested parties can also register for the "Open House Day" on the website www.sapgarden.com.
