Shining centrepiece: video cube now lights up the SAP Garden
Wednesday, 07. August 2024 | SAP Garden: Video cube now illuminates the SAP Garden
Shining centrepiece: video cube now lights up the SAP Garden// NEWSA real eye-catcher now shines above the main playing area at SAP Gardens. The largest LED video cube to be found in Germany's indoor sports arenas is a technical masterpiece that will provide plenty of entertainment in the future.
Last week, EHC Red Bull München player Nico Krämmer was given a special honour. The 31-year-old national ice hockey player was allowed to officially put the LED video cube of the multifunctional sports arena into operation at the touch of a button.
As the cube with its 209 square metres of total projection surface flooded the interior with the light of its 41 million built-in LEDs for the first time, it quickly became clear that the centrepiece of the arena is more than just befitting its status.

"Fans have something to look forward to"
"We had high expectations and wild ideas," says Oliver Wesp, Managing Director of SAP Garden, about the 16-tonne colossus. These were realised by media technology partner SONOVTS. Each of the four sides of the cube measures 9.5 x 5.5 metres and enables a continuous 360-degree display. Wesp: "The fans can look forward to something they have never seen before in Europe." Promising prospects for the spectators of EHC Red Bull München, which will play all its home games in the SAP Garden in future, as well as the fans of FC Bayern Basketball, whose second venue will be the new sports arena.
Despite its enormous dimensions, the LED video cube offers an exceptionally high resolution. This is guaranteed by a pixel pitch of 3.9 millimetres and a brightness of 3500 candela per square metre. For comparison: a modern smart TV has a brightness of approx. 500 candela per square metre. A razor-sharp image - perfectly visible from every single seat in the SAP Garden.
Fasciaboard and TV screens take SAP Garden to a new level of technology
In addition to the video cube, the main playing area also has a 263 metre-long Fasciaboard. This ultra-modern information platform informs spectators in the SAP Garden about the action on the pitch with animations and videos as well as images and text. And in the highest resolution. There are also over 500 TV screens throughout the arena, all of which can be customised.
The ultra-modern technology in the SAP Garden takes the indoor event experience to a whole new level. The people of Munich will be able to see this for themselves for the first time in just under two months. The Grand Opening kicks off on 27 September with EHC Red Bull München playing against the Buffalo Sabres NHL team. On 3 October, the FC Bayern basketball team will celebrate their debut.
