Ice rink drilling of the main playing surface started// NEWSThe SAP Garden continues to develop. Now that the three recreational ice surfaces have been concreted and the ice rink drainage system has been installed, the main playing surface is now being tackled.Patience is still required until September 27, 2024, when the future home of EHC Red Bull München and additional venue for FC Bayern Basketball opens its doors as part of the Grand Opening. Everything is already being prepared in the background.
After the concreting of the three training ice surfaces with around 285 cubic meters of concrete each and the installation of the cooling systems was completed a few weeks ago, the foundation for the future main playing surface is now also being laid.
Installation of the cooling system started
An important step towards ice sports has been taken, as the first running meters of precision steel pipes for the cooling system were laid under the main ice surface on Friday (12 April 2024). Three days later, on Monday (April 15), the welding work for connecting the pipes began.
In total, around 22,000 linear meters of steel pipes will be installed and welded together during this process. In future, 193,000 liters of ethylene glycol will flow through the entire cooling system under the ice surface every hour. This is a cooling liquid that keeps the ice permanently frozen.
