"It can become a real cauldron"Interview with world champion Giffey and runner-up Kastner// INTERVIEWIn a double interview in the SAP Garden, bastketball world champion Niels Giffey and ice hockey vice world champion Maximilian Kastner talked about the importance of the new arena for their sports and the growing anticipation of the first games there.
Next year, the SAP Garden will be the new home of EHC Red Bull Munich and the FC Bayern Munich basketball team, among others. Both clubs are not only very successful in their leagues, but also have players who are important members of the German national teams. Attacker Kastner was runner-up with the DEB team at the Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland and Latvia in May 2023 - Giffey even won the World Cup crown with the DBB team in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. For the two professional athletes, this is a clear sign that ice hockey and basketball are on the upswing in Germany. Question: Another effect of the upswing is model projects like the one we're sitting in here. In 2024, you will both be playing in one of the most modern halls in the world. Kastner: "Yes, you can clearly feel that Red Bull wants to create something special. The new hall will be a plus for Munich and the surrounding area." Even if it's still a long way off. Is there already anticipation? Giffey: "I'm really looking forward to it. Also because fans always react very enthusiastically to new developments like this. I've just seen the inside of the hall for the first time. I think it can create a great atmosphere. And in the long term, it will certainly attract international events. The Final 4 of the Euroleague, or perhaps an ice hockey world championship."

You developed your artistic streak as a sprayer. Wouldn't the Garden be the perfect playground? Giffey (laughs): "I think I'd rather keep it as a hobby. But I really like the design of the hall. It's not so wide - I think the fans can exert a lot of pressure there." You mention the steepness. The maximum possible has been used. Giffey: "Yes, you can tell." Kastner: "It can become a real cauldron. The wider it gets, the worse the atmosphere usually gets. It just gets out of hand." The full interview with Maximilian Kastner and Niels Giffey was published in the Münchner Merkur and tz on December 22.
